What is the safe water temperature for a baby's bath?

Baby bath water should be around 37–38°C — similar to body temperature. Always test the water with your wrist or elbow (not just your hand) before placing your baby in, and use a bath thermometer if you're unsure. Run cold water into the bath first, then add warm, to reduce the risk of hot spots.

How do I bathe my baby safely?

Never leave your baby unattended in the bath, even for a moment — always keep one hand on them and everything you need within arm's reach before you start. Use a support seat or sling like the Moby Smart Sling for newborns who can't yet sit unassisted, keep water shallow (a few centimetres for young babies), and always empty the bath immediately afterwards so there's no standing water baby could return to.

How often should I bathe my baby?

Newborns don't need daily baths — 2 to 3 times a week is usually enough, with top-and-tail cleaning in between. Once your baby is mobile and eating solids, daily bathing is common and fine.
